Tony Mc 65

A Day In The Life
Tony Mc 65

The Beatles said will you still love me when I’m 64?
A question no longer valid to Tony any more

You celebrate a further birthday now you’re 65
But hey look on the bright side at least you’re still alive

So let’s look back a little and see what we can find
I’ll try to avoid the embarrassing bits and will try to keep it kind

A father of three children John, Catherine and Claire
Whenever you’ve been needed you always have been there

Catherine gets married this year so Anne will need a hat
Claire is the chief bridesmaid so I’m sure you will enjoy that

You have a good time with Anne’s family you treat them like your own
You were even first on the scene when Leon and Sarah blew up their home

Zoe gets married to Mark next year a very special day
You even have the honour of giving her away

Lots of kids on the scene of this you must be glad
And from what I hear you make a wonderful Granddad

November 1986 you joined the Ritrama team
This was just the job you wanted the career of your dreams

You worked with interesting people I think I’m safe to say
You also met some challenges along the Ritrama way

The long and winding road at Ritrama had begun
You had some awkward times but mostly had good fun

Your starting team Wendy Fawcett, Ann Sloan and Rebecca Main
And who could forget George Wrigglesworth man he could be a pain

Other staff have come and gone let’s name one or two
Duncan the two Michelles and the lovely Sue

In 1991 it was time to employ another
Who’d of known one day she’d end up as your lover

In accounts you work with cash but money can’t buy you love
Anne though was sent to you from the accounts god up above

You had a long courtship for marriage you did not care
But finally in 2010 you made an honest woman of her

We now knew your love was true you partnership not phoney
That’s when I first wrote for you The Ballad of Anne and Tony

You’ve employed a couple more staff who are still with you today
Little Joy and baby Laura great staff I must say

You have not always made the right choice like the lady with the beard
In fact some of your staff choices have been a little weird

The best staff you ever had was when you ran Despatch
Me of course and Lindsey were your best ever catch

Your life outside Ritrama I asked Anne to have a think
But everything she mentioned always led to drink

A night out at the Boat House a laugh and a joke
Tetley Bitter and red wine rounded off with Bacardi and coke

Curry night on a Thursday you love this so Anne said
You like it hot and spicy along with your naan bread

TV is a passion you think it’s really neat
You favourite TV soap of course Coronation Street

You love to watch your films Bourne movies you do like
I understand if we asked you each one you could recite

Now when it comes to your TV not any one will do
You always want the latest model only the best for you

Off to the retail park to your favourite shop Currys
Credit card in your pocket for new TV you hurry

Please please me Mr. shop assistant please take all my money
But when you’re skint at the end of the month Anne doesn’t find this funny

You like your little holidays you like to take a cruise
Any holiday will do as long as it involves a little booze

Trips to Greek Islands to Spain or the USA
You do get around and about on your holidays

You like to try new places and not to be a bore
You even like to try a Magical Mystery Tour

So to your retirement soon what can you get up to
Maybe you can take some time and write a book or two

Anne tells me you’re a wordsmith and a great letter you do write
she also told me your secret that at spelling you are shite

Paperback writer do you think you can do it?
With all that time on your hands I’m sure you’ll get through it

When you retire Anne’s blood will really be boiling
You playing out with friends while she’ll be still toiling

Colin and Janet your retirement partners in crime
Anne working hard while the gang have a good time

But Anne don’t worry it will soon will be here
You can retire in another 10 or so years

Now we know Anne likes a tear or two so now the soppy bit
All of us gathered here today think you’re a nice old git

Your helped people along the way the ever open door
Some people you’ve helped out once some come back for more

An honest man with great morals in no way are you bent
A good and generous man if fact a proper gent

You say it’s your birthday happy birthday to you
Lets enjoy the evening and share a drink or two

Let have some rock and roll music and maybe twist and shout
We’ll all enjoy your birthday night of this there is no doubt

So best wishes we send to you from us and the man above
And please remember always all you need is love.

I now round off this poem you may ask reason why
I’ve got to get back to the Pool so must say Hello Goodbye.

So Happy Birthday Tony from friends gathered here
Get yourself up the bar and we’ll all buy you a beer.
